Although Spain does not have as widespread a hockey tradition as some other countries, the few clubs the country does have are of an exceptionally high standard, and Spain is classed among the Big Four of the European game along with Germany, Holland and England.

Hockey is played to a some extent in all of the major cities, although it is in the Barcelona area where the sport is particularly thriving, and especially in the city of Terrassa, venue of the 1992 Olympic Games, and the surrounding towns.

So, this is where SALBCN focuses almost all of its hockey attention, and visiting clubs have generally expressed nothing but admiration of the plush facilities on offer at the various clubs in the area, and at the standard of the hockey played by the local men and women.

SALBCN has unrivalled contacts on the Spanish hockey scene, and in association with the Catalan Hockey Federation organises the annual Mercè Hockey Weekend in Barcelona every September.
