Spain can boast one of the strongest football scenes in the world. The likes of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Valencia and Sevilla need no introduction, but this healthy structure goes right down to grass roots level, where clubs are exceptionally well organised and invariably have thriving youth programmes.

This means that SALBCN can arrange fixtures against local teams anywhere in the country. It should be remembered that youth football is almost entirely club based, with very little played in schools, so even at the lowest level the standard is surprisingly good. Coaches take their roles very seriously indeed, and from a very young age, Spanish children are already surprisingly tactically aware.

Spain is also very strong in terms of both VETERAN and WOMEN's football, and SALBCN has often had the pleasure of organising games for such teams.

The top clubs in most towns and cities almost all play on grass or artificial surfaces. However, especially in the drier parts of the country, many smaller clubs use dirt or clay pitches. This may seem strange to some visitors at first, but does not take long to get used to, and in many ways favours more skilful play.
